Clinical History 162

Sixty year old gentleman with respiratoryfailure secondary to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease admitted to the intensive care unit for mechanical ventilation and further therapy. Co-morbid conditions include congestive heart failure, non-insulin requiring diabetes mellitus and hypertension. His medications included furosemide, potassium, lisinopril and inhalers.
